If things at work have not been resolved after raising a grievance, you may be wondering what the next step is. Before you can take your employer to tribunal, you need to speak with ACAS. This process is called Early Conciliation. It is a free and confidential service where ACAS helps you and your employer try to reach a resolution before things become more formal. 

Many people do not realise that this stage is a legal requirement and must be completed before you can move forward with a claim at the employment tribunal.  Most employment disputes in the UK are settled during Early Conciliation, without ever reaching a hearing. Early Conciliation can be helpful, but it can also be confusing. You might not know how much to share or whether to settle. What you do at this stage matters. It can affect your legal position and what happens next.
