5. Writing a Legal Warning

This step is known as a Letter Before Action

If your employer has ignored your concerns, withheld your data or failed to act fairly, you may need to send a final warning before starting legal action. This is known as a Letter Before Action. It lets your employer know you are serious about your claim and gives them one last chance to put things right.

Many people do not realise how powerful this stage can be. A clearly written legal warning can often lead to a settlement or a formal response where there was silence before. It is important to word it properly and stay calm, clear and professional.

This toolkit gives you structured templates, guidance and support to help you write a legally sound letter that puts your employer on notice while protecting your position.
